Hazrat Baba Tajuddin (ra)

Born in Madras, Baba Sahib (ra) lived most of his adult life in Nagpur. The latent saint-like qualities of Baba Sahib (ra) were evident from his early childhood days. These potentialities blossomed greatly after his meeting with a Sufi Saint, Hazrat Abdullah Shah Qadri (ra). It is narrated that this Sufi Saint chewed some dry fruits and then gave them to the (then) young Baba Sahib (ra) to eat. The experience invoked a state of spiritual absorption (Istaghraaq) that continued and increased in intensity, over time.

Hazrat Baba Shah Mehmood Yousufi (ra) had a highly privileged upbringing in a wealthy family, where his maternal grandfather was known as the Jute King, and his uncle owned a Coca-Cola bottling business. Baba’s heartstrings, however, were pulled towards Sufi circles right from the start. His step-father, Janab Mohammad Manzur-ul-Haq Rahmani (ra), was the catalyst that introduced him to Tasawwuf and helped him step onto the Sufi Path. His first mentor was Hazrat Arif Rahmani (ra), also known as “Bhaijaan Qibla,” who referred to himself as his “Private Tutor.”
