- Wahdat al-Wujud | وحدت الوجود
- Unity of Being (synonym)
- Singularity of Existence (synonym)
- Wahdat comes from the Arabic numeral 1. In essence, it’s: collective, unit, singularity, one, lone (term context)
- Wujud comes from the Arabic root و-ج-د and can be used to define existence, being substance, life, body, or individual (term context)
- The conceptual truth that many great Sufi and Auliya have tried to explain in the form of Philosophy explains how When There Was Nothing, There Was Allah (swt)! And since there was nothing but Allah (swt), all that we see now in the form of his creation comes from him and from within him. The ingredients of all things in creation are, by that logic, Allah (swt), as no other ingredient or building block was present beside him.
Sarkar Baba Shah Mehmood Yousufi explained that, while the creation in itself is not Allah (swt). Similar to how ice isn’t water. However, all in creation, when it finally comes to an end, merge back to Allah (swt), just like when the ice melts and turns back into its water form.
Take Away: Creation isn’t Allah (swt), but it also isn’t separate from him either.
